Taylor Swift's Former Classmate Reveals Inspiration Behind "Picture To Burn"

Taylor Swift is known for writing breakup songs about her ex-boyfriends. Fans get a kick out of trying to decipher the boy behind the ballad. Following the release of Swift's latest album, 1989, the wife of one of Swift's high school crushes is claiming that her husband is the man behind Swift's 2008 hit "Picture To Burn" off her eponymous debut album.

Chelsea Alford and her husband Jordan were both classmates of Swift at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee, and she told the Daily Mail that Swift dated him during their freshman year.

"'Picture to Burn' is about him," she said. "Because he's always had big old trucks and stuff. At first it was kind of like, ''Oh, that's weird?'' You know. I was shocked, kind of like, ''Whoa, OK... well that's cool, what other ones are about us?' But then it was kind of funny, it was so long ago now, who even cares."

According to The Daily Mail, Swift's friend Abigail told the couple that the song was about Jordan. Alford says that although the lines about his pickup truck are accurate, she doesn't think he was a "redneck heartbreak who's really bad at lying."

"[Jordan] was like, 'I'm not a redneck! She makes me look like some redneck!'" she said. "But other than that, we just thought it was kind of funny."

Alford told them that she and Jordan are easily able to decipher who the men behind her early songs are, which she says proves that Swift really does write her own songs.

"That first record was a game, like, 'OK, which one is this about? OK, did they even date? No? that's weird,'" Alford said. "There were other songs on there about people ...probably, like Tears On My Guitar, about the guy she never dated, we were like ''that's a little odd.'"

She continued: "She really does write her own songs, so I guess if you date her, you have to know you're going to get a song written about you. In our case, back in school, nobody thought she was actually going to go anywhere."

Alford goes on to talk about what Swift was like in high school, her switch from country to pop, whether she thinks the singer will settle down anytime soon, and more.
