Roger Waters has recently finished up a three year-long tour, and at the age of 70, he's already tearing at the bit. The frontman for Pink Floyd told Rolling Stone that he's recently completed the audio for his first solo album in more than 20 years. Naturally, being a Waters project, it's more complex than your typical rock record.
"I finished a demo of it last night," he said. "It's 55 minutes long. It's songs and theater as well. I don't want to give too much away, but it's couched as a radio play. It has characters who speak to each other, and it's a quest. It's about an old man and a young child trying to figure out why they are killing the children."
Waters' last solo "album" was actually a three act French opera titled Ça Ira, but the performer confirmed that his new project, yet unnamed, was a rock album. The last rock album released by Waters was 1992's Amused to Death.
It sounds as if the bassist's new project has plenty of concept and plot to make for a decent live performance, but Waters isn't sure if he'll take it on the road. Surprisingly, it wasn't because he needs rest at his age, but rather that he might want to fire up "The Wall" for another run. He spent the last three years performing a grandiose recreation of Pink Floyd's The Wall, an epic concept album that's as epic or conceptual as albums get. The set involved massive theatrics, including the aforementioned wall, which was torn down throughout the show. It's the highest-grossing tour for any solo act ever, taking in more than $458 million over its three year run.
The bad news, based on Waters talks of a new solo album and tour, is that rumors of a Pink Floyd reunion are squashed for the time being.
