Tame Impala's Third Album To Drop Sometime This Year

Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala quietly announced today that they will be releasing their highly anticipated third album at some point in 2015. According to Consequence of Sound, this announcement came in an e-mail from the band's management company Spinning Top Music, and though it doesn't specify the album's title or exact release date, it does promise that the album will drop at some point in 2015, along with albums from The Growl, Gunns, Fascinator, and Tame Impala off-shoot POND.

"Now, 2015 is going to be one helluva year.
And I know this because I'm privvy [sic] to some information about some truly amazing things happening that I think you'll all love as much as we will.
There will be new albums from POND, Tame Impala, The Growl, Gunns and Fascinator as well as tours and shows a plenty from everyone across the Spinning Top roster!"

Speaking with Faster Louder back in November, Tame Impala keyboardist Jay Watson suggested that the band's third album is "probably gonna be less rock again and more electronic again, even more than the last one." However, as frontman Kevin Parker records the band's albums entirely on his own, he's the only one who knows exactly what is sounds like at this point.

This new album will be Tame Impala's first since their excellent 2012 full-length Lonerism. Since then, the band has also released two live EPs: Peace and Paranoia with The Flaming Lips, and Live Versions, an exclusive Record Store Day release.

If you can't wait until the new Tame Impala album drops, however, Kevin Parker will be appearing on three tracks on Mark Ronson's upcoming album Uptown Special: "Summer Breaking," "Daffodils," and "Leaving Los Feliz." That album drops next week on Jan. 13.
