Washington DC rapper Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known as Wale, has been a very busy man lately. He just released a new mixtape, Festivus, based on the strong affinity and connection he has with the 1990s sitcom Seinfeld and is gearing up for the The Album About Nothing to follow up his 2008 mixtape, The Mixtape About Nothing. He recently sat down with HotNewHipHop to discuss the album and confirmed the rumors that 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper, J. Cole would, in fact, be featured on the full length LP.
The interview discusses, at length, the upcoming album, and Wale is adamant that this is his best project yet. He describes the concept behind the album, " [The album is] less based around the show and more based around dialogues between me and Jerry about life, the parallels in his life and mine. Two people from vastly different worlds."
He maintains throughout the interview that the album is his most creative and strongest work to date.
"It is the most creative musical experience I have ever tried to offer. You are either going to get this joint or you are not. The people who get it are going to say this is genius."
Interestingly, Wale expresses the desire to distance himself from his popular and heavily played on radio single "Body." "I'm on some renegade s--t, I might take 'Body' off my album. Me and my label are talking about. I want all new records, even the single. He added, "What're we here for? What kinda message am I sending if I'm chasing radio. This is the most creative project of my life...It fits the concept of the album but I just wanna be like f--k that, give them all new records."
The interview finishes with Wale confirming the rumors that J. Cole is on the album, revealing that the North Carolina rapper did a hook for him, and Jeremih will be the only other feature on the whole LP.
The Album About Nothing will be released on March 31, 2015.
