A$AP Rocky has taken to Twitter this week to share his opinion about the state of hip hop and reflect on how 2014 wasn't a notable year for the genre, and how he plans to step up his game in this new year.
Last week saw the release of his new track, "Pretty Flacko 2," which was produced by Nez & Rio, featuring A$AP Rocky spitting fire with high energy and confident verses.
Rocky has since declared that 2015 will be the year of "rebirth" as well as a year "of the underdogs," and he calls for all artists to "step their game up." His tweet read, ""2014 WAS A TERRIBLE YEAR FOR MUSIC, CULTURE, AND UNITY, 2015 IS THE REBIRTH OF IT ALL AND THE YEAR OF THE UNDERDOGS , MARK MY WORDS!!"
Another message following showed support for the younger artists, encouraging them to continue with expressing themselves and asking for them to make the world proud:
"IF U LOVE ART THEN EXPRESS IT EVERYDAY , ALL YOU YOUNG N-- ARE GOING TO RULE THIS GODFORSAKEN WORLD TOMORROW , PLZ MAKE US PROUD ..A$VP."
A$AP Rocky isn't one to normally use or abuse social media, but he has reflected on his Twitter that he is done being quiet. He also said that he feels "like tweeting for the entire 2015," which hints at a promise we will continue to hear motivational tweets as well as hopefully links to new music.
Do you agree with A$AP Rocky that 2014 was a terrible year for music, culture and unity? Are you feeling optimistic for hip hop this year, considering the amount of new music this week alone has seen? What do you think when rappers go on rants on Twitter, especially about the state of the genre and what's to come next? Do you think rapper's rants are played out or a positive contribution to discussing hip hop?
