Following her 2013 Christmas album, Wrapped in Red, Kelly Clarkson is prepping a return to pop music with her first non-holiday studio album since 2010's Stronger. The singer has now shared a teaser (via Twitter) for the effort's first single "Heartbeat Song," which is due out Jan. 12. The clip features her six-month-old daughter, River.
The adorable infant sits in an office chair, wearing a headphones as she listens to her mom's song.
"Hey, River, what are you listening to?" Clarkson asks her baby girl. "It's making you dance. Dance it out! You want to show everybody? Yeah you do!"
Clarkson then plays a snippet of the new song.
"This is my heartbeat song, and I'm gonna play it / Been so long I forgot how to turn it / Up up up up all night long / Up up all night long," she sings.
Clarkson first announced the song on Wednesday via Twitter posting, "Kelly is back... #HeartbeatSong 1.12.15 Visit https://www.KellyClarkson.com to learn more! - Team KC."
Speaking recently of the upcoming album, Clarkson said on Twitter, "My next album is pop. But I am always influenced by music I love, which is pop-rock/country/R&B/dance."
Clarkson's fans were concerned after she announced that her Nashville-made album would have a country influence.
"There's all different kinds of genres on there," Clarkson said. "I'm obviously affected by the community I live in. So there's a little bit of everything."
The former American Idol winner described the album's tone as uplifting.
"I've always been a person about empowerment and doing empowering songs," she said. "There are empowering songs on the record, and there's a lot of positive on there. It's a great record. It's not John Lennon's 'Imagine.' That was sarcasm. But we can aim."
