Years & Years Earn Coveted 'BBC Sound of 2015' Award

The BBC has revealed who will be the "Sound Of 2015." They unveiled their longlist of 15 names back in December, which included artists like Rae Morris, Raury, Slaves, Wolf Alice and the eventual winner, Years & Years. From the 15 names, one was chosen as the "Sound Of 2015" and electronic, synth-pop trio Years & Years was the winner. James Bay was chosen second, Stormzy third, Raury fourth and George the Poet rounds out the top 5 in fifth.

All of the nominees are from the U.K.

We selected Years & Years as an artist to watch in 2015 and this only cements their status as a group ready to make serious noise this calendar year.

"Years & Years have already and will continue to capture imaginations with their electronic melodies and lively on stage sets," remarked DJ Huw Stephens, who announced the band's victory.

Alison Howe, producer of BBC Two's Later... With Jools Holland, added: "This trio are making dance music that wears its heart and soul on its sleeve. Their countless electro pop anthems will fill many a festival tent next summer."

Years & Years got their first break in 2012 with the debut single, "I Wish I Knew." 2014 saw the trio release two critically acclaimed EPs, Real and Take Shelter, while also collaborating with The Magician and Tourist.

Being selected as the "sound of" is a pretty good indication that the artist's career is soon going to take off. The 2014 winner was Sam Smith and we have seen that play out with 6 Grammy nominations, a large pile of hardware from other award shows like the American Music Awards and the Brit Awards, while also dominating the charts with singles from his platinum selling album, In The Lonely Hour.

Other winners include, 50 Cent, Adele, Ellie Goulding and HAIM. Watch the video for "Take Shelter" via their YouTube channel below.
