30 Seconds to Mars lawsuit documentary 'Artifact' gets release date, official trailer [WATCH]

30 Seconds to Mars' documentary Artifact has finally received an official trailer, release date and distributer. The film, directed by 30STM frontman Jared Leto will be released on Dec. 3 through Filmbuff, available for Video On Demand, iTunes, Amazon and other similar retailers, according to The Huffington Post.

The film initially went through the festival circuit in 2012 but will now be available for home viewing.

The band's third studio album This Is War is an epic mastery of big music meant to fill arenas and pump up the band's Echelon fanbase to new heights. In the process of making the ambitious record, 30STM frontman Jared Leto decided to make a documentary to showcase the recording process; he had no idea that in the middle of making the album, his band would experience a $30 million lawsuit with their label EMI, throwing the movie for a loop.

The resulting documentary still features the creative process for This Is War but also gives a detailed look at record industry contracts and how they are intended to take advantage of hardworking artists who aren't particularly in the industry to make money.

The two minute, 51-second trailer features interviews from band members Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic, in addition to industry insiders to give a full detail on the contract dispute that led to the massive lawsuit. Artifact is produced by Jared Leto and directed by "Bartholomew Cubbins" (aka Leto), who does the vast majority of 30STM's music videos, so the cinematography is expansive and vast, with big scenery shots and high quality video.

Since the documentary, the lawsuit has been settled. Earlier this year, 30 Seconds to Mars released their fourth album Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams through Universal.
