There's something about being a hometown hero, and the Zac Brown Band has got that territory covered. Tonight (Jan. 12), the country band is set to debut its new single "Homegrown" on the ESPN College Champion Tailgate for the Ohio State/Oregon football game, but the studio version of the track is available online for fans of being homegrown and ZBB already.
"Homegrown" finds Zac Brown Band blending together its country fried style with a certain pop sensibility and radio-friendly melodies. The song kicks off with hopeful, high guitars before added layers of a bopping drumbeat, keyboards and a plucky banjo kick in.
The optimistic track, which oozes of easy listening country and a happiness, is all about taking it back to one's roots, the perfect sort of accompaniment for a major sporting event.
"I've got some good friends that live down the street / Got a good looking woman with her arms 'round me / In this small town, where it feels like home / I got everything I need, and nothing that I don't / Homegrown. Homegrown," Brown sings in the soaring chorus, with notes of lightness in his voice, though there's a bit of that signature growl lying underneath it all.
