Mastodon Guitarist Playing Late 'Jackass' Star Ryan Dunn In New Film 'I Needed Time to Stay Useless'

Perhaps only hardcore Jackass fans noticed, but Bam Margera broke news in August that Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds would play late cast member Ryan Dunn in the forthcoming film I Needed Time to Stay Useless.

Loudwire confirmed this on Friday, and it's now clear that Margera's announcement of Hinds' casting was not a joke.

From the original report: Not much has been revealed about what Hinds' role will entail, but the news was quietly shared by Bam himself in an August 2014 video right before conducting a hilarious interview with Hinds, where the majority of questions were penis-related in some way. "He just did the movie 'I Needed Time to Stay Useless.' He's playing Ryan Dunn and he did an awesome f-ing job," says Margera in the video.

Check out that interview below:

Hinds isn't exactly known for his acting chops, but we know he'll be strongly influenced by the horror genre. Last year, he told Music Radar that he and the rest of Mastodon watched a ton of gruesome flicks to prepare for the recording of new album Once More Round the Sun.

"We did a lot of John Carpenter, yep, and then we did The Shining by Kubrick. Troy brought in Chernobyl Diaries, so we watched that," Hinds said. "We try to entertain one another as much as possible. As for myself, I've been watching horror flicks pretty much every day since I was three years old. I like the old stuff - you don't need any new movies when you've got the classics. That stuff is like a background canvas for me, something to stare at once in a while."

Dunn was a Jackass cast member from 2000 to 2002 and appeared in 21 episodes.

The stuntman died in a horrific 2011 automobile accident, when he crashed his Porsche at roughly 130 mph. The blunt force trauma also killed his passenger, Zachary Hartwell.
