Tech N9ne is already the best-selling independent hip-hop performer of all time and he's looking to bolster that record during 2015. The emcee announced this week that he'll be releasing another new set during May with Special Effects, according to HipHopDX.
What to expect? We can't be sure as the rapper hasn't dropped any hints, just a release date. We can look back to Something Else, an album that took a more serious approach to hip-hop narratives than Tech has taken in years past, and also included a huge range of guest stars, across genres and paycheck totals. The album featured guest spots from big names such as Kendrick Lamar and Wiz Khalifa to members of his Strange Music label such as Kriss Kaliko and Kutt Calhoun, plus rocker Serj Tankian of System of A Down. Last year wasn't too bad for Tech either, as the compilation Strangeulation got to no. 5 on the Billboard 200.
Tech's also already got a tour scheduled, beginning early in Australia and New Zealand before coming back to the United States during early April. Chris Webby and MURS will join him (as well as Kaliko as always). Based on his appearance at Rock on The Range this year, we'll be looking for some more guitar-based guest stars on Special Effects.
Keep an eye out for a tracklist and guest appearance roster in the next few months. For now you can check out the trailer the Strange Music head released to promote the new release.
"We're not giving it all away just yet, but what I can say to all my Technicians who have been patiently waiting for this, get ready for your minds to be blown!" the rapper said. "We made some dreams come true on this album. You will not be disappointed. It's a beautiful thing."
