The 2014 Brit Awards were just announced, but already the English music award show has two huge performers under its belt. According to BBC Radio 1, American pop superstar Katy Perry will perform at the ceremony. British alt-rock musicians Arctic Monkeys will also take the stage, performing (shockingly) for the first time.
Though the Arctic Monkeys have largely snuffed the Brits in past years, refusing to show up to the ceremony altogether or making a mockery of their trophies by drinking on stage or showing up in costume, they agreed to finally open the show for the next annual ceremony.
According to The Independent, Brits chairman Christian Tattersfield said it was no easy task getting the "Do I Wanna Know" band. "It took a lot of wining and dining on behalf of the Brits but it was my absolute priority to get Arctic Monkeys to perform. It has been their year. It helps that the Brits Awards is now seen as a credible event and is no longer the shambles it was four or five years ago," he said.
Perry, who is American but will be kicking off her Prismatic Tour in the UK next May, will also rock the stage with a new cut from her third studio album Prism.
The 2014 Brit Awards will take place on Feb. 19, 2014, at the O2 Arena in London. British actor/comedian James Corden will host the ceremonies for the fifth and final time. "I really love the Brits. I'm such a fan. I'll miss not doing it after this one but fully intend to enjoy every second of Brits 2014," he told the BBC.
