Iggy Azalea has made her fair share of enemies since rising to prominence in 2014, but now that the initial storm has died down, several prominent artists are taking more measured looks at the Australian rapper. Eve even said that though the Aussie is not her "cup of tea," she nonetheless offers her support.
Eve and Jill Scott stopped by Shade 45 to speak with Sway Calloway about Azalea and had mostly nice things to say about the "Fancy" star.
"I get that people may be upset about certain things," Eve said, via BET. "Yeah she's white. But they grew up with our s**t. Hip-hop is everywhere ... Yes, it's from us and it's our thing ... [but] she's representing a group of girls right now as well ... Let her do her thing. You know, it's not my cup of tea but she's representing for somebody. She's doing her thing."
Azalea then wondered why Iggy does not bring her background and upbringing to light in her material.
"I think she's fly, I think she's good to look at, I think she's a pretty girl, she has a dope body," Eve said. "All of that is fine. I just wish there was a little bit more of where she came from ... it would be dope to hear her with her swag. What are you, who are you and what is that?"
Scott, meanwhile, has found it tough to accept Iggy due to her eclectic mix of sounds.
"It's a little challenging for me because I come from the era that she pulls from," Scott said. "To me, it's like a mixture of Da Brat and Eve the way that it sounds. So that's a little challenging to me. But I'm a mixture of Sarah Vaughan and five other things. So somebody else that comes from that era, they looking at me like ... she all right."
Azalea has been more or less attacked by several hip-hop and R&B icons in the past year, including Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks and Q-Tip. Hopefully, Eve's and Scott's messages will help her have a positive start to 2015.
