Tom DeLonge: left the band
Tom DeLonge: countered that on Instagram
In the open and lengthy interview with Rolling Stone, Barker and Hoppus call out DeLonge, calling him "ungrateful," "disrespectful" and "disingenuous." Their side of the story paints DeLonge as someone who's been uninterested in Blink-182 for a long time and as the sole reason the band has not gotten a record label deal or begun recording a new album.
"We booked Jan. 5 to go into the studio. On Dec. 30, we get an email from Tom's manager saying that he has no interest in recording and that he wants to do his other, non-musical stuff and that he's out indefinitely," Hoppus said, revealing he hasn't actually spoken to DeLonge in months. "There's a flurry of e-mails going back and forth for clarification about the recording and the show and his manager sends [an email] back saying, 'Tom. Is. Out.' Direct quote. This is the exact same email we got back in 2004 when Tom went on indefinite hiatus before."
The bandmates also revealed that DeLonge refused to go into the recording studio without a label but backed out of a label deal last minute. They mentioned they were not surprised that DeLonge finally left the band, painting him as uninterested in Blink-182 projects for over two years.
"Everyone should know what the story is with him and it's been years with it. When we did get back together after my plane crash, we only got back together, I don't know, maybe because I almost died," Barker said. "But he didn't even listen to mixes or masterings from that record. He didn't even care about it. Why Blink even got back together in the first place is questionable."
DeLonge has not responded to the allegations against him by his (former?) bandmates since this Rolling Stone interview. His lone side of the story was told through an Instagram post, where he doubted the veracity of yesterday's press release.
