Spotify and Sony have teamed up with gaming giant Playstation to launch Playstation Music. Playstation Network users will be able to link their Spotify accounts to their current accounts with their consoles. Users can import their current Spotify settings, including favorite artists, playlists, etc., onto their PS3 and PS4 and Xperia smartphones and tablets. The move integrates Spotify's 30-million song library and over 1.5 billion playlists into the gaming network, which boats a membership of 64 million users.
"We are incredibly honored to partner with Sony and PlayStation to give gamers around the world an amazing experience wherever they listen to music," said Daniel Ek, founder and CEO of Spotify, in a statement via Billboard. "As a gamer and PlayStation 4 user myself, I'm super excited to be able to soundtrack my FIFA 15 Arsenal matches later this spring."
Sony Music Unlimited is currently available in 19 countries, where Spotify is already available. When that service shuts down, Spotify will pick up the slack under the Playstation Music name. Once the reboot takes place, users will get a free month of Spotify premium on a trial run from Feb. 28 to Mar. 29, 2015.
Spotify is showing its investors that it is capable of making large deals that would hint at future growth. Despite worldwide losses in 2013, the company's revenue is growing and is finally starting to turn a profit in European markets. The Swedish streaming giant recently signed into a partnership with Uber that allows customers to DJ their own car ride.
With more and more people gaining access to Spotify and it being used across more consoles and areas of the economy, it is hard not to see Spotify, let alone streaming have another year of major growth.
