James Blake has been slotted to take over one of the segments in BBC Radio 1's Residency series in January 2014. The series will feature one selected DJ to play a two-hour set each Thursday, and Blake (recent winner of the Mercury Prize) will be the artist taking the Jan. 23 spot right after a set from T Williams.
Other DJs who will present shows throughout January include Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello, Heidi, Rockwell, Nervo, George FitzGerald and Branko. NME reported Blake's thoughts about the gig: "I've had so much support from BBC DJs that it's going to be great to be on the other side of the desk. I'm really looking forward to starting my new show in January."
This isn't the only exciting thing going on in Blake's life right now. He was one of the many standout artists from this year to be nominated for a Grammy. Other artists included in the lineup of Grammy hopefuls include Daft Punk, Lorde, Tame Impala. In Blake's category for Best New Artist, he's up against Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
NME reported back on Nov. 1 that sales of Blake's album Overgrown went up by 2,500 percent just in the two days after his Oct. 30 Mercury Prize win. The artist undoubtedly had an amazing year in 2013, and his appearance on the BBC Radio 1 Residency will be a great way to start out 2014. Below are all of the DJ performances for the program.
