D'Angelo kicked off his "Second Coming" tour last night at New York's historic Apollo Theater with what was by all accounts an outstanding performance. Over his action packed 3-hour performance, the Black Messiah singer delivered many of his hits spanning his total entire career like "Brown Sugar" and "Lady" before capping off his set with a special 14-minute rendition of his classic Voodoo track "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." The Apollo Theater holds an important place for D'Angelo as it was the first place the soul singer ever performed in New York City. This was surprisingly the first time he had ever headlined the venue.
D'Angelo teed up the performance eight days ago when he was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live where he honored Mike Garner and Eric Brown with a performance of "The Charade."
The Apollo Theater show was the only tour date scheduled in the United States thus far. He will head over to Europe in three days time to kick of the "Second Coming" tour in earnest at the Kaufleuten in Zurich, Switzerland, before hitting crisscrossing his way through Germany, France, the UK, Sweden, Holland and Belgium.
