Damon Albarn's resume includes Blur, Gorillaz and the Good, the Bad and the Queen, but he has never released a solo album — until now. Today he offered a teaser of his first-ever solo album in a 20-second YouTube video. The black-and-white clip films Albarn at a piano playing chords over a tapping beat.
According to a May interview with Rolling Stone, Albarn described the album as "sort of folk soul" and has revealed that the album will come out in 2014.
"I've been making it with [XL Records chief] Richard Russell," he told them. "Making a solo record can be such a disaster, so I thought if we're going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it —take that responsibility away from myself. Richard does the kind of rhythmic side of it and I do everything else."
He also mentioned that he would tour in support of the album. Lucky for fans of his other projects, he plans to play songs from throughout his entire career. After his solo record, he will begin work again with Blur on a new album.
