The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced the class of 2014. Next year, Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt will be inducted, according to Rolling Stone. The E Street Band will be given the Award for Musical Excellence and Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham will be recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first album or single. This year, fans were offered an opportunity to vote toward a collective "fan ballot," which was added to the more than 600 ballots from artists, historians and music industry members.
The Replacements, N.W.A., Chic, The Zombies, Deep Purple, The Meters and Yes were among the final nominees for the 2014 class but did not make the cut.
The induction ceremony will take place April 10, 2014 at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. The general public will be able to attend for the first time with tickets sales beginning in January. "Bringing in the fans adds an incredible energy to the event," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President and CEO Joel Peresman told RS. "The fans should have an opportunity to see the show. They are the reason these bands exist." The even will be aired on HBO in May.
