Paul McCartney Live Show Wins Major Tour of The Year at Pollstar Awards; Nashville Venues Use Hometown Advantage

Most eyes may have been on the Academy Awards last night but a few folks in Nashville were also aware of the ongoing Pollstar Awards, the yearly ceremony dedicated to live music-tours and venues. Paul McCartney was the night's big winner in that he took the prize for Major Tour of The Year, the afternoon's headlining trophy.

Other winners include Katy Perry for Most Creative Stage Production. Sam Smith for Best New Touring Artist. Many of the awards at Pollstar deal with venues and shows themselves and not just the performers putting them on. Austin City Limits won for Major Music Festival of The Year and a number of prizes also went out to some of the most well-renowned venues in the United States, including the Hollywood Bowl and Red Rocks Amphitheater.

One can't help but think there was some bias going on however: Arena of The Year went to Nashville's own Bridgestone Arena, and Theatre of The Year went to Ryman Auditorium...the venue that was also hosting the event. Several other Nashville natives won awards for things such as Talent Buyer of The Year, which went to Tennessean Brian O'Connell.
