TuneCore maintains strong artist community despite YouTube copyright controversy, posts indie holiday playlist

If you are already fatigued by the same Christmas carols on rotation on the radio and stores across the country, we have a treat for you.

TuneCore recently put together a holiday playlist of their indie artists. It's a chance to discover some versions of Christmas classics you've never heard, and find new artists at the same time.

There are hundreds of thousands of TuneCore artists, so this is just a small representation -- though still a long playlist of 40 songs. They recently released 2013 Winter Showcase compilation albums, which people can download on Amazon MP3 for free.

Not everyone is thrilled about this system of monetization for artists. Since the partnership with INDMUSIC, TuneCore has been claiming copyrighted material on YouTube. Billboard recently reported this has angered certain music composers and gamers whose videos have been flagged as containing copyrighted music from a TuneCore artist.

The defining features of a TuneCore artist: having independence, getting affordable distribution and making money off their music. The distribution includes over 74 digital music stores and streaming services.
