Chris Brown: ESPY awards
During a live rendition of "Energy" off his latest release If You're Reading This It's Too Late, Drake switched out the songs original lyrics, replacing "rap n***as" with "R&B n***as."
"I got R&B n***as that I gotta act like I like," he spit, according to fan site Word On Road.
Fans are speculating that the R&B singer Drake has to pretend to like is Brown.
During his recent interview with Hot 97, Brown made it seem like he and Drake aren't really friends, but just on non-beefing terms.
"Yo, we ain't getting no check from talking about dude. We giving him all this [publicity]," he told them when Drake was mentioned. "At the end of the day, I look at it like this: I can't keep making these motherf**kers famous. I'm responsible for a lot of reviving of careers, and I think when I keep talking about somebody — even right now, I just making him hot right now 'cause I'm just talking about him."
Drake's lyric aligns with Brown's tourmate Tyga's accusations that he is fake and only pretends to be nice to his fellow artists when it suits him. It's possible that this reignited beef is partly due to Brown's relationship with Tyga, who continues to vocalize his dislike for Drake.
He recently told The Breakfast Club about the situation, saying it is "not really a beef."
"I just don't f**k with him as a person because the experiences I've had with him personally," he told them. "I'm not going against who he is as a person to the public or his music or anything like that. Like I've said, his music is great and it's undeniable. It's his moment.
"It's not really a beef. It's just personal experiences I've had with him — just phone calls and stuff like that. I feel like he's a nice guy on the outside, but he's not genuine. He plays people left and right."
In the end, we have to chalk this up to conjecture, but hopefully the two can manage to stay out of each other's business so we don't have another feud on our hands.
