Without a question, Adele's album 21 ruled the Billboard 200 for quite some time - becoming the No. 1 selling album in the United States for both 2011 and 2012 and being the fastest-selling diamond album since NSYNC's No Strings Attached. But now, the smash album has passed another threshold: it's been near the top of the American charts for four years straight.
According to Forbes, Adele's 21 has been in the Billboard 200 for 208 weeks now - exactly four years for those who may be counting. This means that for every week since its release in February 2011, 21 has been one of the top-selling records in the country - quite the feat.
Upon its release, 21 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, a status it held for 22 non-consecutive weeks. She spent 39 weeks in the top five of the charts, as well.
Although the album has understandably lost momentum in recent years, it's yet to fully fall from the charts. Not only has 21 been in the Billboard 200 for 208 weeks, but only 24 of those have even been outside of the top 100.
Just this week, Adele's 21 sits at No. 89 on the Billboard 200, with 7000 album sale equivalent units. For perspective, this puts her album ahead of much newer releases, including The Decemberists' What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World (No. 103), Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways (No. 159) and Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth (No. 175).
To date, 21 has sold over 11 million copies.
Given, 21 has unstoppable hits, including the Grammy-winning tracks "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain."
Despite the momentum of 21, Adele's third studio album has yet to be seen. Despite rumors of a record called "25," Adele's label has announced her new album won't at least some out until the second half of this year.
