Sonic Youth Announce 'Bad Moon Rising' Reissue with Four Bonus Tracks

Sonic Youth has announced a deluxe reissue of its 1985 sophomore album, Bad Moon Rising. The reissue will include bonus tracks in honor of the album's 30th anniversary. The re-release follows previous reissues of Daydream Nation and The Whitey Album from 1988. Confusion is Sex, EVOL and Sister will follow, Consequence of Sound notes.

Bonus tracks for Bad Moon Rising will include "Satan is Boring" and "Echo Canyon" as well as "Flower" and "Halloween." The latter pair of tunes were included on a 1986 12-inch release. Check out the full tracklist below.

Sonic Youth released its last album, The Eternal, in 2009. It was the band's 15th studio album and first for Matador Records following the end of their contract with Geffen (they had been with the label since 1990). Rolling Stone gave the album, which hit 18 on the Billboard 200 chart, four stars.

"It's amusing to think that the fiercely freaky Sonic Youth were a major-label act for nearly 20 years. The Eternal marks their literal return to indie rock -and that's no big whoop, since they've always done pretty much what they want anyway. The irony is that The Eternal might be their most concise record ever. It's also a rock & roll ass-kicker," RS wrote.

The group disbanded in 2011 and members went on to work on solo projects. Frontman Thurston Moore and bandmate Kim Gordon announced their divorce in March, making a Sonic Youth reunion seem unlikely anytime soon.
