Kings of Leon premiere 'Last Mile Home' written for upcoming film 'August: Osage County' [LISTEN]

Kings of Leon have released a stripped-down, acoustic version the track "Last Mile Home," which was written specifically for the soundtrack of the upcoming film August: Osage County. The soundtrack and film will be released January 7, 2014.

"It was a story we could all easily relate to," Caleb Followill, Kings of frontman told Rolling Stone. "The dynamic between family is always something that you look forward to, and dread at the same time. Not only are we family, but we all have very strong Oklahoma ties, so we totally relate to that 'frontier grit.'"

According to the article, this was the band's first foray into writing a song that wasn't specifically for an album. "It was important for us to create a song to complement such a beautiful film," Followill told them. "We submitted the song, then went out on the road, then had to find a few days to record between tours. It was a tight squeeze but we made it happen."

The August: Osage County soundtrack also features a new song by JD and the Straight Shot ("Violet's Song"), Bon Iver's "Himmon TX," Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally" and Bill Squier's "The Stroke." The film stars Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard and Misty Upham.
