Plenty of people give up a variety of things for Lent. There's chocolate, fast food, meat and the biggest addiction of all: social media. You just don't always expect one of social media's biggest bad girls to give up Twitter for Lent. But, that's exactly what Azealia Banks has done. Yesterday (March 3), the "212" rapper revealed that she would be leaving Twitter and all of her many feuds until Easter Sunday.
Though Lent was already a week in when Banks made her announcement, well, the intent was there.
Though Banks herself will be staying away from Twitter, fans of the rapper won't see her timeline go completely blank. Her management has been sending out promotional material, and Banks is still actively using Instagram.
And she even managed to stir a little controversy on that site, likening Pharrell Williams to "Little Black Sambo," before retreating and saying she likes Sambo.
Sigh...
Anyway, Banks is not the first rapper to leave Twitter in recent weeks. Iggy Azalea, who notoriously feuded with Banks on the site, also left Twitter, calling it "dangerous to have that negative Internet culture."
