The co-founders of the festival giant Bonnaroo participated in a Reddit AMA to answer questions about this year's event. Jonathan Mayers and Kerry Black fielded inquires about festival additions, what acts declined headlining spots, artists they tried to book and what changes they made to the festival site. Bonnaroo, now in its 14th year, will take place June 11 to 15 in Manchester, Tennessee.
Mayers kicked off the chat by letting fans know that there will be screens at the This, That and Other tents this year. The pair also announced that other artists and comedians will be added to the lineup throughout March and April.
Here are some highlights from the AMA:
• The founders tried to book Prince as a headliner for the festival this year.
• On the festival's growth: "You'll continue to see Bonnaroo evolve ... expand programming ideas, make investments into the property and push creative boundaries. A big initiative is to create more experiences in the campgrounds."
• The Grateful Dead turned down an offer to headline this year as well.
• On higher ticket prices: "Over the years, we've worked hard to keep ticket prices as reasonable as possible while striving to produce an amazing experience. Each year we try and raise the bar and with that comes increased expenses. The increasing number of festivals has created more competition for talent, which increases talent fees. We believe the pricing is still a great value for a four-day, around-the-clock camping festival."
• They are constantly pursuing Jack White to curate a SuperJam.
• Another festival at the Farm at some other point in the year is a possibility.
• No comment on Kanye West's performance last year.
This year's festival will feature Billy Joel, Mumford & Sons, deadmau5, Robert Plant, My Morning Jacket, Slayer, Hozier, The War on Drugs, Gary Clark Jr., Spoon and Childish Gambino. Check out the festival's website for ticket information.
