Britney Spears debuts Las Vegas revue

Britney Spears debuted her Las Vegas residency revue on Friday night at the AXIS Theater within the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Some have suggested that between the pop star's taking to Vegas, and the poor sales of her last album Britney Jean, that perhaps the vocalist is heading towards washed up. A star-studded audience indicated that there's still plenty of interest in Spears' career: Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Adam Lambert and Sia were all in attendance.

Spears may be performing the same show nearly 100 times as part of her Vegas residency, but that doesn't mean Planet Hollywood kept things cheap. The show involved aerial stunts, confetti, pyrotechnics and a huge, rotating tree. On the whole, as reported by Billboard, the gig was as extravagant as you would expect from Britney Spears in Vegas (except when performing newer single "Perfume," where Spears sat on a stool by herself and crooned). We can't assume she'll be doing this for every show, but Spears called for a "hottie" for her performance of "Freakshow." The lucky/unlucky male chosen from the audience was TV host Mario Lopez, who was whipped and such by Spears onstage. It'll probably end up being a one-night stunt.

One negative mentioned by Billboard was the obvious lip-syncing (something Spears had acknowledged would occur during the show). The publication tends to put a positive spin on things, and it described, to our humor, how "There was a certain thrill in actually hearing Spears breathing into the microphone -- however infrequent."
