22-year-old Hustle Gang member Doe B (born Glenn Thomas) was killed early Saturday morning after a nightclub shooting in his hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. He was rushed to the hospital after being shot but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.
The rapper was among two killed at Centennial Hill Bar and Grill, and six more were wounded, according to CNN. According to the report, security guards at the club were unable to stop the shooting. The club had previously been Rose Supper Club before losing its liquor license and closing down after six people were injured in a shooting there a year ago.
Montgomery's mayor Todd Strange has now shut the club down. The city had given Centennial Hill multiple warnings. "I believe it is not a matter of 'if' but 'when' the next tragic incident occurs at this business," the mayor said in a statement. "That is unacceptable, and that is why we have ordered the business to be closed effective immediately."
Machine Gun Kelly expressed his frustration with the club on Twitter saying, "Clubs keep lettin guns in the club as if that's not where we as artists work. We got families to go home to, f**k is wrong with y'all."
Doe B, who wore an eye patch after being shot in the face three years ago, had just been signed to Interscope Records this past summer to join T.I.'s Hustle Gang. His contribution to Hustle Gang's G.D.O.D. compilation earned him recognition as a rising star on the label. He had recently been on tour after the release of his mixtape Baby Jesus and was expected to drop his debut album early in 2014.
His management team, Blueprint Group, told Hollywood Life,"Doe B was an amazing young man, in every sense of the word. A truly talented artist, a loving father and a dedicated member of the hip hop community at large, he touched the lives of the many people who had the privilege of knowing him. The Blueprint Group offers our condolences to our Doe B label partners Interscope / Hustle Gang, his management DJ Frank White and Brooklyn Knights, and most of all his family, friends and fans at this very difficult time. We ask that you remember him not by his untimely death, but by his love of life and the music he left behind."
T.I. responded to the news of the rapper's death on Twitter saying, "RIP to my lil brother Doe B. We gon miss u my n***a. U'll never be forgotten & U WILL NOT DIE IN VAIN. We Love U champ. Always."
Police are still investigating the shooting. We will update you with more information as it becomes available. Please leave your remembrances in the comments section below.
