The Rebel Heart singer Madonna recently dished on her connection with the So Help Me God rapper Kanye West. The (New York) Daily News reported that Madonna claims West is the "black Madonna."
During her recent interview, Madonna revealed that she and West have a lot in common.
"Kanye is the new Madonna," she revealed to the News. "Kanye is the black Madonna."
Perhaps this connection stems from working together on the So Help Me God and Rebel Heart albums. Madonna revealed that she co-wrote a track with West for So Help Me God, and West worked on her track "Illuminati" on Rebel Heart.
Tomorrow, March 10, is a big day for Madonna, as the anticipated Rebel Heart will be released. Billboard reports that the singer used her 30-year career for inspiration for the album.
In her News interview, she revealed:
"There's a lot of reminiscing on this album. I've been doing what I've been doing for over three decades, so in many ways I feel like a survivor. I see that many of my peers and friends and people I collaborated with are no longer with us. That gave me pause. I said, 'Wow, I can't believe I made it this far.' That was a catalyst for me."
Speaking of reminiscing, Madonna also reflected on the days of getting her music heard before MP3s.
"If you wanted somebody to hear your music, you had to get on a subway train and go. There was no phone you could send an MP3 file on. It was fun to take your tape to a DJ in a booth and try to get him to play it. I miss those old days, those old shows in small clubs filled with people who didn't have any preconceived notions about me."
West fans are still waiting for the rapper's album release date. According to Madonna, the two artists know how to keep things interesting for the public.
"We're comrades in the envelope-pushing genre," she revealed.
