Inside Llewyn Davis has been receiving great reviews since its release. Although he says he is thankful he did not get the role, Conor Oberst told Interview Magazine that he was actually one of the many who auditioned for the lead role, which ultimately went to Oscar Isaac, according to Consequence of Sound.
Oberst was among the musicians who performed at a recent concert celebrating the Coen brothers' film and its star-studded soundtrack. He spoke to Issac for a feature story in Interview and revealed that he had been pining for the role.
"I know I told you this when we met," Oberst admitted to Isaac, "but I tried out for your role in Inside Llewyn Davis — and thank god for everyone that I didn't get it. But they auditioned a lot of musicians and actors for this part, to the point where I heard the Coen brothers and T Bone Burnett say that they had more or less given up on the idea of finding someone. And then you appeared."
Although the singer ultimately did not get the chance to show off his acting skills, he does appear in the films behind-the-scenes documentary, which aired on Showtime earlier this month and included footage of the release concert with acts such as Jack White, Patti Smith, The Avett Brothers and Marcus Mumford.
