Kevin Durant raps, not quite as well as he plays basketball

The Oklahoma City Thunder are doing pretty well for themselves, leading the tough Western Conference of the NBA with its 25-6 record. Figuring that he's got this basketball thing on lock, three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant took a break to build upon his hip-hop career, which we assure you, is not nearly as stellar as his athletic career.

Durant went into the studio with three other Oklahoma-based emcees to record "Whole Life." Joining him was Josh Sallee (not former NBA star John Salley), CL McCoy and Privaledge. You can listen to the full track at the bottom of the page (Durant sings the first verse).

"I'm a basketball player. That's what I do and what I love but that's just not all who I am," Duran said last year. "I'm talented in a lot of different areas. Rapping is one of those things I just enjoy doing."

We admit we've heard much worse rap verses, but the production on this track is just awful, and Durant might be going a bit far to refer to himself as "talented." Other media sources have already burnt the All Star pretty well. "Don't try fix a pipe if you're an electrician," wrote SLAM Magazine, a basketball publication. Durant at least had the common sense not to admit to any illicit/illegal behavior during his bars.

The "Whole Life" mentioned in the title turns into "I've been waiting my whole life" during the hook, although it's not clear what Durant's been waiting for. Nineteen seems like a pretty young age to become a pro/millionaire. However, if he's referring to winning the MVP award, we feel for him entirely. The dude led the league in scoring between 2010-'12, and yet LeBron James won the MVP once and Derrick Rose once in that span. We're among those who believe Durant's the backbone of the Thunder, and he deserves some trophies for it. We just don't necessarily want to hear him rap about it.
