The hip-hop drama Empire continues to have many tuned in each week. Last night, March 11's Episode 10 "Sins of the Father" featured Olivia (Raven-Symoné), who added a lot of drama to the season. Symoné spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her role as Olivia and whether or not she will return for Season 2.
In her THR interview, Symoné declared that the more drama for Empire is better.
"I think with Empire the more drama the better! So I was hoping that people would start saying, 'Oh, my goodness, is this real? Who is she?' I think people need to talk about the characters, and people need to talk about these issues," she said in response to concern of the audience's perception of Olivia.
Symoné has been friends with Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal, for a long time. She described how her friendship with Smollett, "her bro," made working together easy and exciting.
"We never had a romantic relationship, but we definitely, living in method acting worlds, acted how we normally would. [Laughs.] It was very natural and easy. I'm happy that he was as excited to work with me as I was excited to work with him," she told THR. "We had never really worked together; we did a little music together prior to him being on the show, but as my best friend, normally we act like that when we're out in a club having fun. 'Let's do a Grease rendition, let's pretend we're a couple and have fun on the dance floor!' He's my bro."
Symoné revealed that co-creator Lee Daniels said there will be opportunity for Olivia to "pop in and out" in Season 2.
"Sins of the Father" also included guest star Jennifer Hudson who played music therapist Michelle. Hudson recently released "Remember the Music" off the Empire soundtrack.
Symoné recently appeared on The View to discuss her role on Empire and ABC's Blackish. Vibe reported that the actress discussed her views of work-life balances in America on the show.
"In America we live to work and other places they work to live. We take it [work] so seriously all the time," she said.
Empire airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
