Brill Bruisers dropped in August and received a slew of positive reviews. Frontman A.C. Newman talked about the album back in June.
"This is a celebration record," he said in a statement. "After periods of difficulty, I am at a place where nothing in my life is dragging me down and the music reflects that." Moreover, regarding the direction of the album, he added, "We wanted Xanadu and we wanted Sigue Sigue Sputnik, which translated into sparklier and faster [music]."

Pornographer Neko Case was coming off the success of her 2013 solo album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You when the band decided to put out Brill Bruisers. Case has managed to put out some stellar solo efforts, and The Worse Things Get proved to be another winner.
"Neko Case has grown into one of America's best and most ambitious singer-songwriters," Rolling Stone wrote. "Her perfectly turned sixth LP deals with identity and autonomy; it's got feminist musculature and the dirt of a working musician under its fingernails."
