The Internet went mad when Kendrick Lamar's album To Pimp a Butterfly was put on iTunes a week early late last night, March 15, either as a PR stunt or a legitimate mistake by Interscope. It has since been taken down, but the discussion about the album and its contents has reached a fever pitch. One of the contributing producers, Flying Lotus, whom the pair collaborated with in the past on "Never Catch Me," took the time last night on Twitter to detail his involvement on the album and sing his praises for K.Dot.
Flying Lotus produced the first song of the album, "Wesley's Theme," featuring George Clinton and Thundercat and created an alternative version of track No. 8, "For Sale," that he said "will probably never come out."
Now that the word's out. I produced @kendricklamar "Wesley's Theme" ft. @Thundercat and @george_clinton #topimpabutterfly album is a classic

I produced a version of "for sale" that will probably never come out. — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
It may not be a surprise to many, but the process of creating this album started a long time ago during the Yeezus tour, according to FlyLo, and he donated a lot of his own work to this project.
Was helping out with @kendricklamar live visual show when he did the yeezus tour... — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
I played him a folder of beats that I was keeping close for my next @xCaptainMurphyx project. Gave him all the beats like fuxk it. — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
Later that night he told me he had the concept for the album.

He gets no credit for being a producer but he had a vision for this album. Dude gets involved w the whole process. — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
When I played him that beat he asked me who I imagined on it. I laughed and said @george_clinton . I never thought it would actually happen — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
I'll probably use those beats for something else but damn. It could have been. — FLYLO (@flyinglotus) March 16, 2015
Also, when you look at the album credits, Thundercat is everywhere and Flying Lotus echoes that fact.
This fool @Thundercat is pretty much on the entire album.
