Congressman Alan Schock resigned recently after spending campaign money for personal use. The Illinois politician reportedly spent funds on private jet rides, Downton Abbey office decorations and tickets to see Katy Perry in concert. According to The Washington Post, Schock used $24,000 of money donated to his campaign for the items.
The congressman released a statement after leaving his post in Illinois.
"I do this with a heavy heart. Serving the people of the 18th District is the highest and greatest honor I have had in my life. I thank them for their faith in electing me and letting me represent their interests in Washington," he said. "But the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself. I have always sought to do what's best for my constituents and I thank them for the opportunity to serve."
Perry is currently on tour overseas.
In other news, the pop singer recently settled a legal dispute with fans who were selling unofficial merchandise of the Left Shark outfit that a backup dancer wore at Perry's Super Bowl Halftime performance. According to NME, the full costume is running $129.99 on the singer's website and a shirt costs $25.
The Left Shark became a "thing" after viral clips showed the dancer straying from the routine.
