Don't call Craig Wayne Boyd a one-trick pony. After winning The Voice season seven, the rising country star has made a splash in his genre's world, performing at the Grand Ole Opry and appearing on several festival bills. And now, he's finally followed up his coronation single "My Baby's Got A Smile On Her Face" with a new song "I'm Still Here," and he even penned it while competing on "that show."
During a supporting gig for Rascal Flatts in Las Vegas, Boyd gave his Voice-inspired single an official debut.
"My last week being on that show, I wrote a song that really speaks about my whole journey up to that point," Boyd said. "If it's alright, this is brand new for me, and I'm going to share it with you guys tonight."
As Boyd teased in an interview earlier this year, "I'm Still Here" is about his musical journey, including his time on The Voice (which even inspired the title). ""It's funny, I was walking around the set as [the number of finalists] got smaller and smaller -- it was down to five of us -- and people would say, 'Hey, it's Craig Wayne Boyd!' And I'd say, 'Yep, I'm still here!' So I wrote a story of my musical journey up to this point," he told Rolling Stone Country.
And the result is a personal anthem, all about making it in the wild world of music. "I'm a believer/ There's a song in me that's begging to be heard/ Yes, I'm a dreamer / I've been hanging on for hope that everything is good / So I skipped a few meals and slept in my car / When you're down that far, they don't care who you are," Boyd sings against the powerful, guitar-heavy instrumentation.
