Reports have surfaced today that Clipse, the Virginia Beach rap duo consisting of brother Pusha T and No Malice, will be reuniting for a new album during 2014. We can't emphasize enough how unconfirmed these rumors are, but it's worth getting at least mildly excited about.
Pusha T recently posted photos online of himself in the studio with The Neptunes, supposedly working on King Push, the sequel to last year's acclaimed solo debut My Name Is My Name. The new report, however, states that the photos were actually from a session for a new Clipse album. There's at least a little logic behind the argument: The Neptunes have handled nearly all of the production on Clipse's previous albums, whereas Williams by himself covered only two tracks on My Name Is My Name. KarenCivil.com, a source Music Times typically finds reliable, reports that it has confirmed the recording of a new Clipse album, but it doesn't cite any sources. So again, be wary.
Clipse gained widespread acclaim for its 2006 album Hell Hath No Fury and the witty lyrics of its stars, who delivered a less photoshopped approach to the hustling business. After dropping another album during 2009, Pusha T has been working with Kanye West and GOOD Music, whereas No Malice had a religious realization and distanced himself from his previous work as both a dealer and rapper. Although there was no fallout between himself and Pusha, it seemed unlikely that the two could compromise their values enough to put out a new Clipse compilation. No Malice dropped the more religiously-minded Hear Ye Him during 2013, which proved he still sounds as mean as ever, even when rapping about God. If he and Pusha T reunite, it promises to be a worthwhile endeavor, regardless of subject matter.
