Snoop Dogg appeared on this week's season finale of FOX's new hit series Empire and he just revealed some exciting news of his own. While giving his keynote address at SXSW, the legendary West Coast rapper revealed that he's been working on his own forthcoming HBO series.
According to XXL, he's been developing the series with Allen Hughes, director of Menace II Society and Rodney Barnes, writer for The Boondocks. Fader reports that the series, based loosely on some of Snoop's experiences coming up, will center around a family living in L.A. in the early 1980s under the specter of Reaganomics.
Snoop will hold the title of executive producer for the as-yet-untitled show. The "Peaches N Cream" rapper is the latest to have a hand in a new cable series. His friend and "P.I.M.P." collaborator 50 Cent also stars in and serves as an executive producer for his Starz series Power, which premiered last June.
The series stars Omari Hardwick as James "Ghost" St. Patrick, a wealthy New York nightclub owner who leads a double life as the drug kingpin of a lucrative network for high-level clientele.
As reported by Collider, season 2 of Power is set to debut on June 6, 9 p.m. on Starz.
We're wondering what 50 Cent thinks of Snoop Dogg's new show, seeing that he wasn't too pleased about Empire.
Back in December, he accused the Fox show of copying Power in its promotional campaign.
"POWER Season 2 is unbelievably good trust me. I have the best writers and show runner. I like Terrence Howard and Taraji Henson. I don't like that they would copy the marketing," he wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.
A recently released promo video for the series includes the tagline, "Empires are built on power."
