Nina Nesbitt promises American crossover potential with forthcoming 'Peroxide.'

It's easy to forget how young some of our favorite performers are when they enter the music world. From Michael Jackson's Jack 5 debut at the age of 11, to Lorde's chart-topping single "Royals" at the age of 16, it doesn't take much life experience to make a splash in the music industry. Tuesdays Under 21 is a Music Times feature dedicated to bringing attention to talented musicians and performers under the age of 21. Who knows? They just might be the next big thing.

WHO: Nina Nesbitt

WHERE: Edinburgh, Scotland

AGE: 19

WHY: It's tough not to see some comparison points between Nina Nesbitt and Taylor Swift. Not obvious at first, when listening to Nesbitt's Scottish accent versus Swift's slight lilt. Nesbitt's video for her single "Stay Out" takes us back to 2006, when Swift was just a girl with an acoustic guitar, before the glitz. "Stay Out" references staying out late, not an jilted command, as Nesbitt and her guitar take to the night street's of Edinburgh during the video for the track.

Of course, Nesbitt was also endorsed as an opening act for his European tour, just as Swift brought Sheeran on tour in the States (she also appeared in the video for Sheeran's "Drunk" as the protagonist's ex). That Swift-comparison might be forced, but her talent has impressed other performers as well, including English vocalist Example.

Nesbitt doesn't need big names to make it big however. She was well-established enough prior to meeting Sheeran, and her second EP The Apple Tree topped iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart upon its release. Her first full LP, Peroxide, is scheduled to drop in the U.K. on February 17, and the potential for an American crossover is good based on the emotional resonance and catchy hooks of Apple Tree.
