Chris Brown is now officially off probation for the assault on Rihanna that affected both of the singers's lives as news of the attack went viral. It was more than six years ago when Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna following a pre-Grammys party. According to the Associated Press, James R. Brandlin, judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, officially ended the probation Friday, March 20.
As a result of the decision, the X singer will no longer be under supervision of the court or probation officials for the first time since mid-2009. His probation period, however, did not come without hiccups.
This past January, Brown's probation was revoked when he performed outside of the Los Angeles County area and failed to complete his hours of community service. Prior to that, Brown reportedly was involved with other scuffles, including a fight with singer Frank Ocean at a recording studio in 2013.
TMZ reported a tweet from Ocean, saying, "got jumped by chris and a couple guys. Lol. I only wish everest [his dog] was there. Cut my finger now I can't play w two hands at the grammys."
Brown was 19 when he assaulted Rihanna. He fled the scene after the incident, but later turned himself in to police hours later, the AP reported. He was charge with felony assault.
Expressing his joy to be free of probation, Brown tweeted yesterday, March 20, "IM OFF PROBATION!!!!!!!! Thank the Lord!!!!!!"
Prior to entering court Friday, Brown asked his Twitter followers to pray for him, tweeting, "Hopefully this is my last day in court.....Pray for me."
Brown's attorney Mark Geragos gave Brown a hug in the courtroom and again in the courthouse elevator after the decision to end Brown's probation was revealed.
"He is in a spot right now and a place right now that I couldn't be prouder of him," Geragos said, according to the Associated Press.
The attorney also considered Friday's hearing to be "a monumental feat for him."
