This time last month, moviegoers were first catching a glimpse of Jamie Dornan in action as Christian Grey. After a wait that seemed like half of an eternity, Fifty Shades of Grey finally landed in theaters and, while Dornan was admittedly not everyone's first choice to play the lead character in the BDSM book series come to life onscreen, he certainly turned in a solid performance. Now a few weeks later, Dornan is able to process the whole experience -- before beginning to film the second movie in the trilogy -- and look at it a bit objectively. He said he is "comfortable" playing psycopaths.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Dornan admitted that he found his most recent character choices a bit interesting. He also fully understood why many other actors would not touch a risky film like Fifty Shades of Grey.
"I consider myself quite light-hearted, pretty easy-going, and I keep playing sick psychopath bastards! It kinda worries me sometimes how comfortable I am in that zone. You know, I'm not naive as to why people would think it was a bad [career] choice, or why there is a snobbery about it. But I'm also not stupid, and I knew with [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and [cinematographer] Seamus McGarvey the film would be in safe hands. And, you know, it does no harm to be in a film that makes half a billion dollars," explained Dornan.
While portraying Christian Grey might have seemed a risk, his portrayal of Paul Spector on BBC2's The Fall has been nothing short of brilliant. His psychopathic murderer opposite Gillian Anderson's investigator and the steamy game of cat and mouse they continue to play has been mesmerizing to watch. Dornan is beyond grateful for the chance to play Spector, saying that this job has given him "ev-er-y-thing."
