Thanks to the half-billion-dollar success of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson's name is pretty much known by just about everyone. Even people who have not seen the film know she is the one who plays with Christian Grey. Fame is something Johnson is quite accustomed to after being raised by celebrity parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, but she is not used to being the actual reason for all the buzz. That kind of notoriety is unnerving, especially for a young woman who completed her first rehab stint at age 17. Johnson seems to have done a good job of maintaining her sobriety since 2007, but she has seen firsthand what instant fame and being a household name can do to a person.
"There is something very scary about thinking everyone in the world will know who I am. When Mom and Dad were at the height of their careers and things were super-crazy and they couldn't leave their houses, there wasn't social media. I feel fame is perforated -- it can be glorious but it can completely destroy a human, too. Even now there are moments when I think, 'What the f**k have I done?'" said Johnson to The Daily Star not too long ago.
Johnson watched as fame ripped apart her parents at various times while she was growing up. Griffith and Don Johnson have both struggled with addiction issues that have led to stints in rehab, so Johnson likely realizes she needs to be extra careful because these traits are part of her DNA.
Do you think several years of sobriety are enough to have helped the 25-year-old actress navigate through the last month of fame? Is being wise enough to understand that sometimes what appears to be a good thing can actually sneak in and actually destroy you one of those things that might help keep Johnson away from trouble?
Johnson must really value trying to maintain a stable life because she has had everything available to her in Hollywood for years now and has managed to steer clear of things. Will she ultimately outstep her DNA and keep her sobriety in check? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
