On Friday, March 20, at SXSW, Lionhearted DJ Porter Robinson beat major pop acts like Charli XCX, Sam Smith, FKA twigs, Run the Jewels and J. Cole to win the mtvU Woodie Award for Woodie of the Year, meaning Artist of the Year. MTV has posted his acceptance speech online with Robinson holding his comically large statue, which he received from a naked Fat Jew and The Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff.
In his speech, he thanked his managers, his fans -- who voted him the prize -- his label Astralwerks and Skrillex, who was important for young Porter Robinson. Skrillex's label OWSLA released Robinson's first EP Spitfire in 2012, and it was so popular it crashed the Beatport servers.
"I just believe there's a really, really beautiful future for electronic music," he added.

The night saw performances from Big Sean, Fall Out Boy, Years & Years and James Bay, while the day-long Woodies Festival acts like Raury, Rae Sremmurd, Action Bronson, Misterwives, Ty Dolla $ign and Clean Bandit with Jess Glyne all performed in Austin, Texas.
Other winners from the night included Childish Gambino, who may be retiring the moniker sometime soon, Taylor Swift for her cover of Vance Joy's "Riptide" and Hoodie Allen featuring Ed Sheeran, Billboard reported.
As to be expected at South by Southwest, the party does not stop during the day or with an evening awards show. There is always an afterparty. Robinson went to the Mad Decent SXSW showcase for a quick 45-minute set "just for fun."
