Insane Clown Posse are going to court, and not in the way one might suspect. The shock rap group and four fans are suing the US Department of Justice and the FBI due to the classification of its fans, commonly known as Juggalos, as gang members.
According to Rolling Stone, ICP are asking for Juggalos to be purged from the FBI's list of known gang members, a distinction they have held since 2012. ICP and its four fans have teamed up with the band's lawyers and the ACLU for the lawsuit, claiming that the FBI's inclusion of Juggalos on its National Gang Intelligence Center list is unwarranted and "unconstitutionally vague."
The four fan plaintiffs in the suit join ICP after receiving discipline from the military and being searched and detained by cops for having visible Hatchetman tattoos or stickers on their cars.
Insane Clown Posse claim that since its fans were classified as gang members, audience attendance and merchandise sales have gone down significantly. More importantly, ACLU attorney Saura Sahu claims that ICP fans are now afraid of identifying as such, for fear of being further ostracized by society.
"We don't fit in anywhere. And when people don't understand you, people fear you. All we're trying to do is be like the Stephen King of music. We like to tell horror stories," said ICP member Violent J.
Despite all the reasoning, ICP are unsure of whether or not they can take down the man and give its fans the distinction they actually deserve. "We don't know if we can beat the FBI," Violent J told Rolling Stone. "But we're damn sure not gonna sit there and accept it."
