Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears take home trophies at People's Choice Awards Music [FULL WINNERS LIST]

The 40th Annual People's Choice Awards took place Wednesday night (Jan. 8) in all its awkward, 2 Broke Girls hosted glory. Among a slew of TV show winners and Adam Sandler somehow winning Favorite Comedic Movie Actor, there were live musical performances and two whole awards dished out to pop's biggest acts.

Shortly after the show kicked off, Justin Timberlake was present to take back the award for Favorite Album for The 20/20 Experience. As he is wont to do at award shows, the charismatic pop star took his time on stage to make girls' (and boys') hearts swoon with some hilarity.

"Thank you. I would like to thank Ellen for all the personal inspiration and the cookies. Bakes a hell of a cookie. No, I would like to thank my parents for instilling with me that no dream is to big, my team for putting up with all me neuroses all the time. I'd like to thank all the fans who voted. I'll take it, people's chance. I love it. I'd like to thank my beautiful wife," he said in his acceptance speech before giving some handy marital advice. "Putting dishes in the dishwasher goes a long way. Fellas, you're welcome."

The other music-related award dished out on Wednesday happened to go to Timberlake's ex, Britney Spears, who bested the likes of Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Timberlake himself for Favorite Pop Artist. Never doubt the power of the Britney Army.

Other semi-music related awards went to The Voice for Favorite Competition Reality TV Show and Jennifer Hudson for Favorite Humanitarian, thanks to her work with the Julian D. King Foundation.

Of course, no award show would be complete without live musical performances. As a mid-level award show, the People's Choice Awards pulled from some of music's more understated stars.

Sara Bareilles, best known for blasting her vocals live warbled through "Brave." Seemingly facing vocal issues, the Grammy-nominated songstress struggled to hit the majority of the track's notes, making it an unfortunate start to the night.

Luckily, Brad Paisley was able to revive the live music portion of the show with a rousing performance of "The Mona Lisa." The country crooner wandered throughout the audience, taking a selfie with one woman's cell phone and swapping hats with none other than Heidi Klum.

The final performance of the night went to OneRepublic, performing the No. 2 song in the country "Counting Stars." Dressed up in 50 shades of gray, the Colorado rockers gave the track a straightforward, slightly breathless performance.

Though Spears and Timberlake were the only ones to accept their awards during the telecast, a large number of winners were announced shortly after the People's Choice Awards wrapped up.
