French Montana is hard at work on the follow up to his 2013 debut LP, Excuse My French. The New York City-based rapper says upcoming album, Mac & Cheese 4, will be a return to his root in honor of the fans that have stayed loyal to him since the early 2000s.
"I'm going back to the essence on this album," he told Rolling Stone. "We're giving the fans that grew up on me what they want. When we made the other music, it was just to be a little different and not do the same thing over."
The title comes from a series of mixtapes of the same name, which is why it came as a surprise that this volume would be released as his sophomore LP rather than a free download. According to the article, he hopes to have the first single out within the next two months.
As Rolling Stone points out, Montana has previously worked with artists including Miley Cyrus and will.i.am and will continue his collaborative work this time around with Macklemore on the track "Nightmare." But if the rapper could choose any person to work with it would be the currently incarcerated Max B, the rapper's beloved mentor. He is also currently working on collaborations with Rick Ross on Mastermind and Kanye West on his upcoming album.
Earlier this month, Montana dropped the mixtape Coke Boys 4, bringing in Coke Boys members Chinx Drugz, Lil Durk, Cheeze and Flip on the effort and also features Jadakiss, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Snoop Dogg and Diddy. It is available now as a free download.
