'American Idol' Qaasim Middleton Save: Scott Borchetta Says Judges May Regret Using It Last Week

The judges on American Idol -- Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. -- used their one "save" of the season to keep the eccentric performer Qaasim Middleton in the competition last week. Mentor Scott Borchetta told Taste of Country that the panel may end up regretting that decision. The Big Machine label head was not putting down Middleton's talent, though -- he just thought it was a little early in the show to use the save.

"If we lose one of the frontrunners, I think they will regret it," he said. "If one of the top four or five who really feel like they're starting to pull away from the pack have a bad night, all we can do is smile and wave."

Some of the fan favorites who have also been singing well every week include two of Borchetta's picks (Jax and Clark Beckham) and one wild card (Joey Cook). The group will sing tunes from the 1980s tonight, March 25, with Jax taking on Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name," Beckham singing The Police's "Every Breath You Take" and Cook doing Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."

According to Borchetta, Culture Club's Boy George will help mentor the young singer's tonight.

The mentor also added that the younger contestants seem to be struggling more. Youngsters in this year's group include Tyanna Jones, 16; Maddie Walker,17; and Daniel Seavey, 15. Seavey has been the one struggling the most, but fans continue to vote for the pint-sized singer.

"The younger ones, because they don't have anything to compare it to, they're just like, 'Ahhhh ... what are we gonna do?'" Borchetta added.

Last week's best performances, in our opinion, belonged to Adanna Duru, Jax, Cook, Beckham and Middleton. Check back for Music Times's coverage of American Idol tonight and tomorrow, March 26.
