Could American Idol be packing its bags and moving to New York? Rumors are circulating among fans of the singing competition that the show's season 13 finale will take place outside of Los Angeles for the first time ever.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Idol producers are talking about moving the live season 13 finale from L.A.'s Nokia Theatre to the Madison Square Garden in New York City. However, the NYC move is as of now an unconfirmed rumor from an Idol source. Another insider claims there's no way the competition is moving away from its trademark Hollywood setting.
The potential move to New York wouldn't be the only change for Idol's 13th season. After a tumultuous 12th edition, which focused more on the in-fighting between judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj instead of the contestants, Idol made some huge switch-ups. Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. will be joining Keith Urban at the judges' table, which Randy Jackson will play mentor.
Furthermore, longtime Idol executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick stepped down after 12 years, giving the reins to Per Blankens and Jesse Ignjatovic.
Whether it be in New York of Los Angeles, the season 13 finale of American Idol is scheduled to air in two parts on May 20 and 21. Before all that, the premiere date is set for Wednesday, Jan. 15.
