Kendrick Lamar's much-hyped To Pimp A Butterfly track "King Kunta" will reportedly be his next radio single. Now it appears a video is on the way as well. Footage has surfaced online of Lamar and a large crowd gathered at the Compton Swap Meet for a video shoot. Lamar is shown performing on top of the building and in the parking lot as a mob of fans dance around to the g-funk anthem.
One local fan posted a clip of the shoot to Instagram with the caption, "K dot filmed the #KingKunta video last night at the Compton Swap Meet. As a black man born to a woman who was raised on the Westside of #Compton, #Fruittown to be exact, this makes me proud.#rap #hiphop #LA #tpab."
"King Kunta" is the third track on To Pimp A Butterfly. The song references Kunta Kinte, an 18th-century slave in Virginia whose story is the basis for the novel Roots: The Saga of an American Black Family. Kinte was a rebellious slave who ultimately lost his foot as punishment after four attempts to escape the plantation. He has since become a symbol of black resistance against oppression.
"B*tch, where you when I was walkin'? / Now I run the game, got the whole world talkin'/ King Kunta / Everybody wanna cut the legs off him / Kunta / Black man taking no losses," Lamar sings on the hook.
"King Kunta" is TPAB's second single following "i," which was extended on the album version.
